Feeling inspired by participants in my new on-going art therapy group at Hornsey Lane Community Centre, who take creative risks, explore arts material, and surprise themselves with what they make. There’s a mood of calm and relaxation, at the same time as intense concentration and activity. Some moving memories and stories are starting to emerge. No matter what age, gender, ability, the arts are for everyone if we can just let go of our ideas about “good art.” Next door to our room are a group of nursery school children who at this early stage, don’t even consider whether what they’ve made is good or not, it’s the process that counts. How can we keep hold of this creative attitude as we grow up?
